Some people think it’s one or the other…It isn’t always an either or choice. Sometimes it’s both.
- Chocolate and vanilla?
- Cream and sugar?
- Football and baseball or hockey and basketball?
- Boys or girls. (Ahem, perhaps I should say, Men or Women?)
- Pizza or french fries?
- Vegetables and dairy?
- Angel or star?
Some choices are more frivolous than others…but choosing both (and then some) is often the best choice.
This morning I heard them speaking about angels or stars or bows on their Christmas trees. I do have an opinion about this, but it was just some thing to encourage calls, texts or tweets. This topic isn’t going to change the world…just like most of the ones I wrote above.
Mostly, I think people should have many choices, and those choices aren’t life or death…therefore, more often than not I could really care less. A, B or even, C are all good. Maybe they are all great!
I do have an opinion whether not I should support one organization or another. At some points in our lives, time is too short and so many things that we would like to do, but you can’t do everything. This is not about donating money, but instead, it is about donating time and support, or professional experience. Or, even more valuable – emotional support.
At the end of the day you have to decide if it serves you also.
Even if you are helping a group tremendously. At the end of the day, I think you can support multiple things, multiple organizations, multiple initiatives. But, if they are not also serving you – they’re taking time away from you, your family, your sanity and your future. Then, I strongly believe that you should reconsider and then, choose one or the other. Sometimes, the best choice is to choose yourself.
