As the kids go back to school, or off to college this fall how to they make virtual connections, when in-person connections are normally hard enough?
The normal recommendations still apply, it is just…well, harder.
- Talk to people.
- Pay attention.
- Listen to cues.
- Find similarities.
- Get online sooner.
- Open your mind.
- Find common ground.
- Participate often.
- Don’t let your introverted tendencies keep you from joining in.
That last one might have some of you saying, but hey, that’s not easy.
I know.
But, you are not alone. They are introverted, too.
So, it is uncomfortable for everyone…be uncomfortable together. Later, when you finally meet up in person, you can laugh about it.
- Stop multi-tasking.
- Share your camera.
- Look them in the eye.
- Really, really listen.
- Trust in you.
- You are amazing.
- Smile, it’s at least a start.
- Laugh when you want.
- Try not to worry.
- Don’t think too hard about it, just be your own amazing self.
When all you have are the virtual connections, being there and showing up are more important than ever.
