Why do you do what you do?

We all have the things that we have to do. For whatever reason. But, why do YOU do what you do?

Why do you open your business every day?

Do you just love to make sandwiches? Or, do you like the people who come into your place of business each day?

Do you love clothes – and picking them out – and helping people find the right thing to wear? Or, do you just know that there is a huge mark up on clothing and you can make money in selling apparel?

Do you want to entertain or teach people because you are funny and smart? Or, do you think other people can be happier when they laugh or learn about something new so that they can be smarter?

Hopefully you really do love it, because the margin on anything you sell is not high enough to cover all of the overhead, staff expenses, taxes (ugh – hate taxes!) and marketing (yay, love marketing – except when it doesn’t work…) and the margin on what you do is dependent on how effectively you reach others to be able to make them laugh or learn.

So, in reality, you have to do a lot more than just LOVE what you do and you need to keep doing it over and over and over again to bring customers and clients in the door (to you and your business) day after day after day.

In order to really LOVE what you do – continue to aspire to be better and to ask for help, or to help someone. Will it stop you from doing what you need to do? Will it help you be better, smarter and help your business grow? Then you can really help someone by creating a place for them to work. And, that, THAT is something. I’m pretty sure you will really – really LOVE what you’ve done.

Maybe I can help. Maybe I have. Hopefully I have. For all the clients out there in my past, present and future, I hope that I have fed you, entertained you, made you smarter and helped you provide work for people. Because, that’s why I do what I do. Now go out there and do what you do best and enjoy your day.

That’s it for today, stop back again for more on Hat Girl’s Take on Marketing and Life.
