When you sit down at the table, there is always room for one (or even five) more.
Why would you close off dinner?
They walked in the door and want to be there with you. They are looking to be a part of the conversation, to share their story and learn more from you.
Welcome them with open arms, a glass of wine and just bring another place setting and chair. Squeeze in, shift over, get closer.
All year long, we keep the extra leaves in the table. You never know who the kids will bring home, or who will stop over. Or, what kind of project you will need to spread out and make it work.
This way, there is always room for as many as will be a part of our family gatherings (or room to do what you need to do whenever you need to do it.)
