Meditation, or sitting in silence can be a difficult thing for many. Even the mere thought of it can start to cause discomfort. When trying to empty your mind and just “be”, it proves to be nearly impossible. Random ideas, things you have to do, tasks – the many, many things that we “need” to think about daily come to mind.
Over time, I think it gets easier.
I for one find myself thinking of Elizabeth Gilbert in Eat, Pray, Love when she is trying. How she finds it to be so very…trying.
Sitting in silence is not always the ultimate – be all, end all – goal. Sometimes, you just have to say what is on your mind and then, you can let it go. Of course that does not have to be the end. You can choose whenever you want to spend even more time pondering the deeper meaning over time. On your own, with friends, and family.
