Love is…

In the eyes of a child, love is so many things.

Love is this thing, this emotion, that they don’t even know they have but they exude every day. I asked my 9 year old who she loved. “Jeez mom, no one. I’m not dating anyone!” (OMG, didn’t expect that to come out of her mouth.)

“So, you don’t love anyone?” I asked.

“No, not ‘like love’ someone,” she said

Then, she started singing. Nat King Cole.

L is for the way you look at me
O is for the only one I see
V is very, very extraordinary
E is even more than anyone that you adore can…Love.

Then, in her own words. “Love is dating, then marrying someone.

How is it, that the song she picked, could transcend so many generations and convey what she thought of, as love. (It was easier to sing it, than to explain it – probably not so very different than many adults.)

Try this week though, try to show the way you love your children. Listen to them, ask them what they think, talk to them…and share with them what you think Love Is.
