We are independent from:

• the heat…only because we have the technology to fight it and new equipment to keep us cool.
• the need to work…only because we worked other days to make time for the holiday.
• the requirement to hunt and gather for our food…thank goodness for the market and all of the suppliers who do the hard work to make it easy for us.
• the desire to run away…because we have people around us who care and love us and help make the days brighter (and cooler, too!)

Luckily we are independent from a large number of things, most importantly oppressive restrictions on our freedoms – but only as long as we continue to keep the ideals that started us out on this path in place. Happy Independence Day and Happy Birthday America.
