Parenting is often about giving independence, whether they want it or not. Most kids, from toddlers to teens, want more freedom.

• Me do it.
• I can do it.
• Why won’t you let me do it?
• Really, you can do it.

Sometimes they’re not really ready or confident. We have to make sure that we focus our efforts, let go and be sure to let them go. Giving independence to your kids is the best thing you can do for them. Just make sure to be there when they need you…if they need you. College departures will be here before you know it…but today, relax, enjoy family and talk with them if they’re around…they’re probably off with their friends enjoying some freedom of their own. Is that what you’d have wanted to do??
