What You Mean

Texting is often hard to convey exactly what you mean. There is no inflection, no emotion – no way to convey sarcasm, joy, pride, happiness or sadness.

Then again, even talking sometimes doesn’t get the point across. It isn’t the words you choose that are the issue.

It is the circumstance, the prior relationship, the current situation and ongoing role each of you have.

  • That is not what I said.
  • I mean, it is what I said, but not what I wanted to say.

Ugh.

  • It is just so frustrating.

You may not have the time to devote to creating the simple, easy-going understanding, because that can take weeks, years – decades even, and then still not quite get it right – but you can try.

Until then. Think through it; think before you speak and then say what you mean to say…or, at the very least, take the time to clarify if you don’t get it right.
