Top of the Minute

Everything used to be measured at the top of the hour, but not anymore. In this digital age, if you are not on time, at the top of the minute, you are late.

No one under 20 – maybe 30 – says “about quarter till”. They say “it’s 2:43” as if that time of day is particularly important. Or, that being precise is better.

Even though the digital version of time still takes a full sixty seconds to round the minute, if you are not on the phone, at the meeting, logged in, at the top of the minute you – my sad friend – are late.
