New and Old Ways

There are both new and old ways that are, well, both right.

Just because “we have always done it that way” is true, doesn’t mean it is the only way.

But, also, just because someone comes up with a new way, doesn’t mean it is better – except when it is.

When homes were built 300 or more years ago, they didn’t have running water or electricity. Then, the newer utilities had to be incorporated into the home. It changed the walls, make them cut holes here and there, and rebuild it…better – but, it wasn’t original anymore.

Things like central heating and air conditioning, replacing fire places with radiant floor heating systems (which meant replacing original flooring.) Or, internet capable appliances that know when you will be home and pre-warm or chill the house. It is all welcome.

The outside may still look very, very old…but inside we can certainly have modern conveniences. In this case, I think both the new and old ways are fine – they can co-exist – and we are better off for it.
