“Hello, may I speak to _________:”

• the manager / owner / person in charge.
• the parent at home.
• the one who just called me.
• the concierge.
• the one who placed the ad.
• the person who just said “Hello, this is _________” (insert same name).

You can fill in the blank I am sure.

They know who is calling. You know exactly who it is you need. Saying “may I speak to…?” it is just a matter of courtesy; or a hope that you have actually reached the right person and can just get to the point.
