Many Reasons for a Parade

There are many reasons for a parade – and boy are they varied.

Today’s holiday, as far as I can tell from a little (more detailed than half-assed) internet research started with a strike and a march down the street. Workers protested bad working conditions, long hours and working seven days a week. They took a risk. Other’s joined them. Their voices were heard. Things started to change.

One by one the states of this country adopted the holiday, then neighboring countries and others far reaching (though they chose a different month all together.)

Don’t work. Close the office, restaurant, or store…unless you have a choice to work when and where you want. Then, be open as it is your option.

Maybe the freedoms we have are just one of the many reasons for a parade – today and throughout the year. To all of you out there, the ones who take a risk, make a change, show initiative – we appreciate you and all who came before you. I do have to also say how we must appreciate those who work today whether it is to keep us safe, feed us or allow us to take a break. Happy Labor Day.
