Green Marketing

I admit that I “missed” the official Earth Day deadline to share this, but can’t help comment and admire this never seen before version of green marketing.

Downtown, City of Chicago, a local green house is promoting locals to sponsor a tree, or mulch or any part of the planting of a tree – in any season – to help beautify the city streets.

How adorable is this? Ok, maybe not adorable, but certainly clever and unique. Normally, all forms of green marketing are just blatant pandering; guilting people into supporting a business which isn’t actually part of an environment or green initiative. While I understand that this organization (The Morton Arboratum) and the tree nursery from whom they source their trees, might actually make some money, there is a big win for the city residents. Cities always need more trees, grass and open space – so I was happy to see this – all around a new park they are building. Let’s go buy a tree or maybe plant one..
