If you are keeping score you have to get across the finish line…and then, do it over and over and over again.
The end becomes the finish and vice versa. An endless loop.
We all keep score, we want to know if we are winning, or not.
In a race, you count down the miles, one after another until you get to the last mile and then, 1/10th at a time until you are done.
Projects have a finite timeline, hopefully, with regular deliverables and a final wrap up in the end when everyone agrees that it is complete.
Sometimes though, the list of things to do is long and the regular schedules are (seemingly) infinite – all you want to do, is be done.
In that last case, if all you do is get across the finish line, you can consider that a win. Even if you have to crawl, scrape and fight to get there, over the course of 1 year, 2 years, or more. Done and done. Thank you very much, it was nice knowing you. Say good-bye, but promise to keep in touch. You can at least do that; knowing you did everything you said you would do and probably more.
