There are probably a lot of times, people, or things whom you don’t want to follow…
…when you are a comic and the headliner gets to go first.
…when the more experienced team member presents their pitch right before you.
…when the current agency, the one who created the award winning campaign is in the board room ahead of you.
…when the dump truck tarp is flapping around and you see debris and gravel spitting out of the top.
…when you have the windows rolled down and the car in front of you is spewing black, stinky exhaust.
…when you have bad news, but they just got good news and you don’t want to ruin their day.
…when you are the newest student in the room and the experienced guitarist (and teacher) warms up the room.
I overheard a young man mumbling to no one in particular, “I can’t follow that…” – I told him that he could. I am not sure that he believed me. Sure, they were really good, but it doesn’t mean that he wouldn’t have been as well. Sometimes you have to go last, even when you don’t want to follow…but if you do, you will be all the better for it. Overcome your fears, overcome the obstacles and find your own path – it will still be amazing. After all, there are many who don’t even try and that is even worse.
