We should always, always listen first. Learn as much as you can before you share your answers and advice.

What have they already tried? Or what did they think would work? Maybe they want an opinion on alternative options.

If you don’t know the instructions, and parameters, you may waste time, giving wrong direction.

Also, you may discover something you’ve never even thought you would want to know more about, like ever.

It is always recommended to listen first – get all the info you need – good to do before you jump to a conclusion and just forge ahead. Maybe they should be the one to make the decision and come to the right conclusion (for once.)
