Blowing Smoke

You know the old phrase “blowing smoke” – well, it is a curious thing.

When people say it, do they mean it? Or, is that just a phrase that doesn’t really have clarity anymore.

Idioms abound and people just say them but likely (often) don’t know what they mean, or really mean anyway. Nor do they know why they were created, when they were crafted and who might be most likely to use them properly.

Yet, they are still fun to say – whether it is out of habit, a parroting of something their parents (or grandparents) used to say around the house, or just because they can’t think of a better way to explain themselves quite so succinctly.

In any event, I am not blowing smoke – up or out or anywhere – instead, I am saying it quite plainly. If you ask me, I will probably say it to you, too. No exaggeration. No bizarre medical cure. No fire, embers or ash either. Giggles maybe. Yes. We have those aplenty.
