Playing Dress Up

Most little kids, especially little girls, like playing dress up. Holidays, like Halloween, are one thing, but fancy shoes, things to put in your hair and sparkling dresses make any girl smile. It isn’t fall (thanks goodness) – it is spring and Prom season is here…oh, how fun.

Today is just one day with local florists sharing beautiful pictures of their creations of floral bouquets and boutonnières. Salons are featuring their stylist’s handiwork with complicated braids, flowers woven into twists and curls tumbling down. Gowns, many “red carpet” worthy, chosen to match the girls’ personalities. Some with feathers, draped tiers, shirring, cap sleeves, cut out peekaboos, and many with sequins, made of silk, satin, tulle or chiffon.

Parents proudly share their children’s transformation on Facebook and InstaGram. These girls and boys aren’t so little anymore but they still enjoy playing dress up. If we’ve done it right, they know this is just one night – it isn’t real – but they will dance, have fun, celebrate springtime and come home safe, back to their parents for a few more years.
