Of course, you want the good, and I mean the best, stories to take their time. To linger. To wander. To keep the person engaged.

Tell us more.

Make us laugh.

Help us wonder.

Bring us to tears.

Give us a life-affirming experience.

We never want it to end.

But then, the wrap up in the style of Star Trek, Captain’s Log, everything is a-okay is just, I don’t know, contrary…to all of the things that came before. Argue for the extended time. Tell the editor to trust you. Take a few more pages, ten more minutes, or one more episode to let us savor the entire thing. Give it the credit that it is due and make the effort to allow us to linger with you. We will come back and you will get another book/show/deal. The fans will support it. I am sure of it.
