Speak Up and Share

It isn’t easy, changing the future, but if you want to have some kind of impact, you have to speak up and share what you know.

I ran into a complete stranger today, a teacher and mom of a toddler. She was complaining how the kids are not focused, and now, even the girls have ADHD (or exhibit likely signs.) She mentioned how she felt strongly that elementary aged kids didn’t need to sit in front of a computer all day long.

They need to be active.

They need to move.

They need to play.

They need to interact with their peers.

They need to resolve conflict in person (not online.)

They need to pick up a pen or a pencil and turn a page in a real book – to learn and remember.

They need to be kids (for as long as they can be.)

She is 100% right. Studies are coming out (left and right) that the worst thing to do is to give a child, under the age of 13 a smart phone with access to the internet.

The only way to stop it is to get others to agree and all decide to work together to change the future for our kids. They don’t need it. Heck, we know we don’t either…

So. Learn more. If you are a parent, talk to the parents of your kids friends and make a pact. Agree that you all know this is giving them a worse future than we had.

If you agree, speak up and share what you learn. You don’t have to go it alone, but you have to go and do it, together. Teachers, parents and schools all need to work on this and it can fix the problem, sooner than when it is too late.
