Sure, they say don’t take it personally…but:

You can’t help it,

Even if it is not true,

It hurts.

Even if it’s part of business – and not actually personal…

Because, we are human and it is,

Personal.

But – turn it around and say something equally mean, caustic, biting and as much of a generalization that (also) isn’t true – and tell them don’t take it personally and maybe they will understand. The worst part is that it won’t even make you feel better.
