A long debated, not always agreed about - do you classify a lower case or upper case F when talking about work friends? This isn't actually about spelling, or grammar and certainly not about the letter F. It is about the meaningful aspects of your friendships. You. As in people. Need friends in all areas, times and cycles of life. Friends come to you in childhood, school, college (similar, but different), sports, work (duh, of course), and then it moves into other areas. Marriage and having children. The people your spouse are friends with, they may become people with whom you choose to go on vacation. The moms and dads of your kids, the PTO parents and those from youth sports, enrichment and other activities become close, more than just acquaintances. You are around them, and find common ground. This leads to more over time, and is a good thing, natural and should be welcome. Plan a coffee, a meal...and then, parts of your life with them. The work friends are similar. If you are lucky, they are the ones you can call when no one else will understand. Hopefully, it is not just for those things that happen between 9 and 5, becoming more of the capital F variety you wouldn't want to lose even if they left the job and maybe even moved across the country. Reach out to them, let them know how truly special they are to you. It matters more than you know. ~ Dawn aka Hat Girl
