If you try three times and it still doesn’t work, do you:
- Ask for help?
- Try again?
- Give up?
My answer to this question will vary depending on a wide variety of circumstances.
If someone who is more experienced is around, then I might ask them. I don’t want to bother someone with something that I should be able to do, however. So then, it also may depend on the person who is around. Are they generally… helpful, busy or available?
Have I been able to do this before and it just isn’t “working” for some reason. I mean, sure – things break. Software gets updated and sometimes stops working. Mechanical things may wear out, need maintenance or a one foot drop to “reset” the moving parts. Maybe it is dusty and needs to be cleaned. Perhaps someone knocked it off the shelf and it is broken…even though the lights are still on (no-one is home.)
Then again, if you are tired, or short on time, it might be best to stop trying. At least for now. Later you might want to come back to it. But, how much do you need it to work, like right now at this moment, or, can it wait?
So many questions – there isn’t a perfect answer. Generally however, if you try three times, it should work. It is a magic number after all. At least for me it is. What about you?
