It isn’t hard to appreciate special effects today, especially when you go back and watch the older versions of movies made now.

Remakes of remakes and the reinvented versions of the old familiar stories you grew up reading and watching are wonderful – and they weren’t so bad back then – originally. It was all we knew.

If you are to watch them today, look at the original modeling and the scale. Stop motion, hand drawn overlays, miniatures and actual models “flown” across a backdrop with blocking and a lot of editing. It was what the movie creators had to work with and it was so innovative. Light years ahead of what was used when movies started being made. We know…they were able to convey their concept and the lack of today’s technology wasn’t something that distracted you.

Now.

Digital creation and AI technology changes the game. Every single day.

It is a challenge I give to you.

Go back and watch but just ignore the differences between then and now. You can make fun of it, but…Understand that the special effects today will just keep getting better and better until what we see in a year will make even today’s movies look like they were made 10 or 20 years ago.
