Places away from home, may not be that different, but because it isn’t home, it feels different.
I know this is mostly nuanced, but it is all of the little things that add up.
Like, the road surfaces, the trees and brush on the side of the road.
Or, the descriptions of the products, and the labeling due to the different legal requirements.
Plus the food prep, recipes and spice levels – more or, sadly, less.
And, then there is the slang or accents – even in English – with the cultural variations it not only sounds, but feels different. Not bad, not good, just different. It makes you appreciate the other, and definitely the comforts of home once you are back.
