Always Remember

Today, in the spirit of 9 | 11 I suggest the phrase: always remember. (I know I wasn’t in charge and it’s not perfect, but a better statement perhaps than “never forget”).

So, we visited a new (to us) memorial. Nearby, but never having been there I thought the timing was perfect.

Initial thoughts…

The design? Spectacular.

The mood? Reflective.

The people? Quiet.

The upkeep? Meticulous.

Every where we go, especially in the area where we live, in the birthplace of America, history is with us. Everything is old and Washington or his soldiers probably walked, slept, ate, fought and/or died here.

Now, it’s modern day. Saturday, September 12th. Not yesterday but close enough (especially compared to 1776 and the Revolutionary War.)

New.

Fresh.

Tragic.

The events of September 11th are still visible in our mind and the feelings come flooding back. The shock of it all and the disbelief about what was happening even as we watched it unfold.

What would you do today if the attacks were just yesterday and you hadn’t had the experience from 2001 to rely on for reference?

Think about it and always remember that people around you will help. Even if they don’t know you…because that is what Americans do for other humans. May we never have to test it out, but trust yourself and others that we would come together to move forward.
