No one wants to admit they didn’t plan ahead and only brought something up as an afterthought…a spur of the moment, off the cuff idea.
They want to show their creativity.
They want to be the one to inspire others with their brilliance.
They want to know that they will wow the rest of the team.
Furthermore, no one wants to be invited last, or brought in at the eleventh hour.
Being an afterthought is seen as extra, superfluous and non-essential. Not all that important to the situation or, even the solution. Be in the room or be talked about (in the room.) It’s always better to be the former.
