Think First

It is a time, more than ever, to think first and speak second.

Whether it is with a client, a friend, your kids, or your spouse. You never know what they may be concerned about at the moment, or what they’re focused on at the time.

Most people, really don’t know what they don’t know, because they haven’t lived through a crisis like this. Not in our lifetime anyway.

In terms of what we’ve experienced here in our area anyway…this is very different from:

  • 9/11
  • Hurricane Sandy
  • a 2-day, stuck at home, blizzard
  • (even) the gas lines of the 1970s (which I only vaguely recall, anyway – but it was stressful and we walked whenever we could)

I wasn’t born when MLK or Kennedy was shot (and the joke “Ted Kennedy was shot?!?” is no longer applicable, but I did use that line once at a dinner with peers older than me. And, well their reaction, it was awesome.)

Most of all, I don’t know how to help my kids through this, or what will come of this on the other side, but we are trying our best.

I for one, will try to think first and then, maybe think again before I share a strong, judgemental opinion. If you hear me say something crazy…just give me a high sign. (Each of you can decide what your code word is – just let me know what it is so I know I have gone too far.) All of that said, for now, I am going to see what I can do about enjoying a relaxing, stress-free weekend. TGIF everyone, make it a good one.
