There Are Two Kinds

I am starting to think that there are two kinds of parents.

The ones that are there for you, through thick and thin, who support you and share in your dreams.

– and –

The ones who are in it for themselves, who make you into their back up singers, who steal your power and leave you when you need them most.

I believe that there’s a place for change and that the children can come out on the other side. Stronger and more dedicated to what they’re meant to do in life.

I’m reading Carrie Fisher’s new memoir. She is currently in the hospital recovering from a heart attack…Debbie Reynolds is there, by her side and I can only hope doing more good than harm. I know nothing of her real life, only what I’ve read and the reality I’ve seen on screen (both the acting and the screen plays she’s written.)

Very likely, there are two kinds of children…the kind who grow from the hardships they’ve had in life and those who dwell on it, becoming dependent on someone or something to make up for what they didn’t have early on in life. I’m hoping that she comes out the other side and we can continue to benefit from her humor, her stories and she loves a long life, able to enjoy what she has earned the hard way.
